The Yankees met the hottest team in baseball Tuesday and handled it with a fiery left-hander and some red-hot bats. Every member of the starting lineup had a hit by the fifth inning and Carlos Rodon delivered another quality outing as the Yankees tamed the Twins with a 5-1 win at Target Field. The Twins (24-17) came into the night having won 17 of their last 20 games, but at least in the first game of the series, they were no match for the Yankees (28-15), who won for the eighth time in their last 10 games. For the third straight start, Rodon did not walk a batter the third such streak of his career, the first one as a Yankee and struck out six Twins. Torres jokingly took credit for that wrinkle, telling Rodon on Mondays flight from Tampa that he should throw his changeup more often. Against the Twins lineup that featured seven right-handed hitters and two switch hitters, Rodon obliged to have a pitch that went away from them instead of in. So I just tell him, Believe me.
