Har Ki Dun is one of the most beautiful treks in Uttarakhand. Known as the “Valley of Gods,” it is a place where you see snow-covered peaks, green valleys, rivers, and ancient villages all in one journey. In this article, I will share my personal experience of trekking to Har Ki Dun, what I saw each day, and what made this trek so special for me.

Why Choose Har Ki Dun Trek?

Many people go for treks in the Himalayas, but Har Ki Dun stands out because:

  • It is a valley surrounded by high mountains.

  • You walk through old villages that are more than 2000 years old.

  • The trail has forests, rivers, meadows, and snow.

  • It is a moderate trek, which means beginners can also try it with some preparation.

For me, it was not just about adventure. I wanted peace, nature, and some time away from city life, and Har Ki Dun gave me all of that.

Day 1: Reaching Sankri – The Base Village

The journey started with a drive to Sankri, the base camp for the Har Ki Dun trek. The road passed through pine forests and small villages. Sankri itself is a small but lively village with wooden houses. Spending a night here gave me the first feel of mountain life.

Day 2: Sankri to Taluka and Trek to Seema

From Sankri, we drove to Taluka, the starting point of the trek. The real adventure began here. The trail followed the Supin River, and I could hear the sound of flowing water all the way. After hours of walking, we reached Seema, where we camped for the night. Sitting by the river after a long day felt peaceful.

Day 3: Trekking to Osla Village

The next day, we walked towards Osla village, famous for its wooden temple dedicated to Duryodhana from the Mahabharata. The people here live a very simple life, farming and taking care of animals. Talking to them made me realize how different mountain life is from city life.

Day 4: Osla to Har Ki Dun Valley

This was the most exciting day. The trail went through forests, streams, and open meadows. After hours of walking, I finally reached Har Ki Dun Valley. The view was breathtaking tall peaks all around, a clear river flowing in the middle, and wide meadows. Spending the night here felt like living in another world.

Day 5: Exploring Har Ki Dun

We stayed an extra day in the valley to explore. Some trekkers went towards Jaundhar Glacier, while others relaxed by the river. I spent time walking around, clicking photos, and just sitting quietly. At night, the sky was full of stars. I had never seen the Milky Way so clearly before.

Day 6: Return Journey Begins

The next day, we started walking back the same route. It felt easier because the trail was mostly downhill, but I still felt sad leaving the valley behind. Nights at the camps were now filled with laughter and sharing stories with fellow trekkers.

Day 7: Back to Sankri

Finally, we reached Sankri again. The trek was over, but the memories were fresh. Looking back at the trail made me realize how much I had seen and learned in just a few days.

Challenges I Faced During the Trek

  • Long walks every day tested my stamina.

  • The cold weather was tough, especially at night.

  • Steep climbs needed patience and focus.

But every challenge made the journey more memorable.

Best Time to Do Har Ki Dun Trek

If you are planning your own trip, here are some tips:

  • Summer (April to June): Lush green valleys and clear views.

  • Autumn (September to November): Golden fields and pleasant weather.

  • Winter (December to March): Snow-covered trails and a magical white valley.

What Har Ki Dun Taught Me

Har Ki Dun was more than just a trek. It taught me:

  • To live with less and still be happy.

  • To respect nature and keep it clean.

  • That the best memories are made when you step out of your comfort zone.

Conclusion

My Har Ki Dun adventure gave me some of the best days of my life. Walking through villages, listening to rivers, and sleeping under starry skies made me feel connected to nature in a way I had never felt before. If you are looking for a trek that gives both beauty and peace, Har Ki Dun is the place to be.
